From mailroom to Senior Management. Sounds like a fairytale? Well, once upon a time there was a German girl named Alex. She wasn’t sure what to do with her life, until… she won a ‘golden ticket’. From all the millions of people participating in the raffle for a US Green Card, she won it. So off she went - without a plan, but with high hopes.

She slowly settled in on the West Coast, and one day she tagged along with her auntie to the local Fedex office. What are the odds? They were hiring people to man the mailroom. No sooner said than done Alex became the new package handler, sticking box onto box and unloading the trucks. Little did she know that this was the start of a shining career…

Alex worked with full motivation and a smile on her face. Whether it was sorting packages or driving delivery trucks, she never considered herself too good for the job. At Fedex they noticed Alex' capabilities, people skills and intelligence - and must have known that she would outgrow production in the blink of an eye. It wasn't long before she got promoted and put in charge of the outbound operation of her local station. And so Alex discovered her organisational talent. She moved up, and up and up until she was heading up multiple offices in the West-coast area.

One day it was time for Alex to move on. She found her place at Univar, moving from parcels to chemicals. In charge of the Supply Chain of a different type of good, this made the stakes much higher. With her sharp eye for detail Alex makes her mark and improves their ways of working. And when the time came, she did the same for Starbucks. A different type of product, a different kind of query. The well known supplier of daily caffeine fixes requires a unified supply around the world. Alex accepts the challenge, and proves her competence yet again. So much so, that Starbucks agrees to grant her wish to move closer to her family. Alex packed her bags and travelled to Europe. Not long after that she landed in the city we all love. Welcome to Amsterdam.

A modern day Cinderella story without ugly sisters. Alex found her fairytale at adidas by being humble, hard-working and never shying away from heavy lifting. Today, Alex is proud of what she has accomplished and where she's coming from. Moral of the story? Humility is a virtue, and patience is key. Your talents and skills will be seen, when you give it time and give it your all…
