Behind the Mask ...

"Don't be so quick to judge people, you only see what others choose to show you" !
For many people it is difficult to consciously live life as their true selves. Many put up a mask or use defenses that allow them to cope with daily life. They are living life behind a mask. Unaware of the repressed feelings, they struggle through a murky haze, baffled by moods that are unbearable to live with. A smile can be one of the most endearing aspects of an individual. Yet, there is a hidden side to smiling that we seldom consider or that may be revealed. Smiling may not always represent the authentic feelings and emotions of an individual. It may be simply a facade acting as an outward appearance to conceal a less pleasant or creditable state of being.
"Not everyone smiles of happiness, some smiles to hide thier tears."
Sometimes, we can become so used to hiding behind our facade that we forget that anyone with actual substance exists behind them. Our tendency to keep up our facade can become so second-nature to us so that we unconsciously have our facade on autopilot. And when we drop the facade or the mask, the real person behind it may be someone we are not comfortable with, or may not even like. The person behind the facade may be someone we wholeheartedly reject, and we may never allow our true selves to make a public appearance because we perceive their flaws to be unacceptable to others.
“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.â€
Taking the risk to drop our facade or remove our 'mask' can have many positive benefits. It can mean the difference between keeping our relationships with others on a superficial level and allowing them to become ones that is more real and fulfilling. We think that if we open up to others and expose the real version of ourselves they will reject us, perhaps lose respect for us or worse still, humiliate us. The reality though, may surprise us. Casting aside our self-critic, we can allow ourselves to truly shine through – warts and all. We may be able to learn how to embrace our true self, even if we have been unacceptable to ourselves in the past.
“Everything will change in your life when you finally learn that you deserve SO MUCH BETTERâ€
Life is beautiful.
