Duncan Winecoff, a seasoned director celebrated for his unique vision and compelling storytelling, has officially joined +ep. Films. Known for his emotionally resonant storytelling and collaborative approach, Duncan brings a wealth of experience and a distinctive touch to the world of commercial filmmaking.

Duncan’s path to filmmaking is as rich and layered as his work, exemplified by his upbringing in a multicultural Buddhist community that influenced his deeply empathetic storytelling style. With a childhood that spanned across Halifax, Boulder, and Ojai, his upbringing was steeped in spiritual and philosophical influences. “Ojai is a unique convergence of traditions,” he shares. “As a spiritual mecca, it draws from Buddhist teachings, Indian philosophy, and the heritage of the Chumash people. Growing up there, I learned the value of community, creativity, and introspection.”

These early experiences, combined with a rigorous education and a move to New York City, shaped Duncan’s worldview. In New York, he discovered his passion for film, collaborating with his brother, Stuart (an extremely talented DoP), on a short film that set the foundation for his career. “The process of crafting a story and seeing it come to life was transformative,” he recalls. “It made sense to who I am — a deeply empathetic person who finds fulfillment in creating moments that resonate.”

Duncan’s career has taken him across the globe, from the bustling streets of New York to Berlin’s creative hub and back to his roots in Ojai. “I’ve always felt that my style resonates more with European audiences,” he notes. “There’s an appreciation for emotional depth and nuance in storytelling that aligns with my approach.”

This global perspective informs Duncan’s work, which balances artistic integrity with the realities of commercial filmmaking. “I’ve found joy in the process of collaboration,” he explains. “Being on set is about building relationships and creating an environment where everyone feels valued. It’s not just about the end product; it’s about the journey we take together.”
