Behind Every Sale Is A Human Being
If you work in Business Development or Sales, let's face it.... we all love closing! There's a "high" associated with every aspect of the Lead Generation process for us. It's almost addictive! Everything from discovering the Decision Makers information, to befriending the Executive Assistant, to that moment of actually catching up with your Target Prospect. It feeds us and gives us a sense of accomplishment.
But today, I was reminded that behind every sale is a human being. Someone who is separate than the products or services they provide. Someone who is not just the title of President, CEO, or VP of Operations.
Today, as I looked into the eyes of the individual I was meeting with, I saw that there was something wrong. It wasn't me, or my proposal, it was something big enough that the golden rule of "leave your personal life at the door" concept was, at that moment, difficult to do. And let's face it! We've ALL been through those situations where we are simply just going through the motions of day to day business and at the same time Reality is shaking us up saying "Hey! You are also a father, mother, friend, lover, caretaker, or family member!" And sometimes that "reality" simply just takes priority.
So as Business Development and Sales professionals or actually any individual in business, I encourage us all to keep at the front of our minds that "behind every sale is a human being" and to watch body language, listen to the tone in the other persons voice, and actually look into their eyes and CONNECT with your potential clients like you would like to be connected with... like someone who sincerely cares!
Life is difficult enough so let's come together and put the Sincerity back into Sales!!!
