Behavioral Interview Questions for UX Interviews

Behavioral Interview Questions for UX Interviews

After interviewing with multiple companies and landing jobs, I have observed that 80% of UX interviews consist of behavioral questions. You will often be asked to talk about yourself, explain your design process, and describe how you approach different situations. Since this is a big part of the job, being unprepared can leave you feeling stuck in interviews, potentially costing you your dream job.

So, I have put together a list of questions to help you prepare, along with a framework to structure your answers and boost your confidence in interviews.

?? P.S.: At Design Quest, I have launched a 90-day Landing a Design Job program to help designers prepare, gain confidence, and land the opportunities they deserve. If you're interested, feel free to reach out and book a discovery call.

Learn more about the program from here.

Here is a list of the most commonly asked interview questions to help you feel prepared:

  • Can you tell me about yourself?
  • What are you looking for in your next role?
  • What is the biggest problem you have solved so far?
  • Why are you leaving your current role?
  • How do you approach your design process?
  • Can you talk about a project you recently worked on?
  • How do you collaborate with cross-functional teams?
  • How do you work with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders?
  • Which part of the design process do you focus on the most?
  • How do you think about your design career?
  • Who do you look up to in your design career?
  • What is your take on design thinking? How do you apply it in your work?

One of the key things to remember when answering interview questions is to keep your responses grounded in reality. Avoid vague or hypothetical answers. Instead, provide concrete examples, share past experiences, and use the STAR framework (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses.

I also encourage my mentees to create a document with all their answers. This will help you prepare effectively and confidently answer questions during interviews.

Thank you for reading
