The beginning of the collapse of the French campaign in Egypt

Jean-Baptiste drew the scene that was and still raises controversy, which is the killing of the French general Kleber, who was left behind by Napoleon Bonaparte in Egypt after he left for France at night.

Jean-Baptiste Kléber, general in chief of the Army of the Orient by André Dutertre: 1798, H. 54; L. 36 cm, at Chateau de Versailles.

Kleber did not remain as commander of the French army in Egypt for more than a few months, after which a young Syrian man named Suleiman Ibn Muhammad Amin al-Halabi came from the Levant, to sneak among the servants and approach Kleber to stab him four times with a knife and stab the architect Brotan six times, then escape...

.An hour later, he was found and sentenced to burn his right hand and killed by impalement. This event was the result of the French campaign’s killing and abuse of the Egyptian people and its attempt to occupy Palestine. This artist, Jean-Baptiste, painted in the same year Kleiber was assassinated, and Kleiber has many paintings. It shows his appearance and clothing details that need research.
