The Beginners Guide To Retinols

The Beginners Guide To Retinols

What is actually Retinols / Retinoids ??

Retinoids is the family with in this family we have Retinol , which has to be converted to Retinaldehyde and in order to be active in the skin it has to be converted to Retinoic acid , So they all fall under what is called Vitamin A derivatives umbrella , this umbrella has a simpler name which we call it Retinoids , and there are other generations of retinoids which are Adapalene and Tazarotene

What do Retinoids do?

We can consider them as a foundation for acne treatment , also they are very effective in anti-ageing treatment , Also hyperpigmentation so they probably do everything when it comes to skincareI do believe that after applying sunscreen retinoids is a very powerful ingredient to take it in consideration in your routine as it does a lot of things combined

How to start with Retinoids ?

We can shop/search simply with products written on it “retinol “ .. that’s it

We don’t have to go for advanced products ,also we don’t have to go which products written on it directly retinoic acid as it might be somehow irritating if you are in a beginner level of using retinol , Also preferable to use another calming ingredient or hydrating ingredient with this retinol product , I recommend for this CeraVe retinol serum as it has retinol in a low dosage also encapsulated form of retinol which releases itself throughout the day , and it has niacinamide and licorice extract which works on hydrating and calming as well.

How to use it if I have a dry skin?

Using a vehicle like a moisturizer which has retinol is a very good option , as it will moisturize the dry skin first and then retinol will work its way , better than using a serum vehicle or lotion containing retinol , you can find it anywhere on the internet

"I have acne what can I use?"

Generally, Retinols are very effective over the counter ingredient for acne treatment , but to be more specific the most effective one in retinols family is Adapalene , it was a prescription ingredient now it became more OTC, the la Roche-Posay Adapalene Gel is a great option.

However, if you have a medical condition preferably to go to your dermatologist first to check out what is happening before trying to use these kinds of actives, if you don’t I think trying the previous recommendations might help
