A Beginner’s Guide to Getting Started in Golf in 2025!

This week, I had the chance to sit down with our incredible golf team at The Chase Golf and Country Club to chat about something we’re all passionate about: helping new players take their first steps into the world of golf. It’s not just about the game—it’s about building confidence, having fun, and discovering why so many people fall in love with this sport.

Here’s what the team had to say about getting started in golf and why The Chase is the perfect place to begin your journey.

Step 1: Don’t Overthink It—Just Start

One of the first things the team emphasized is that you don’t need to have all the answers before you start. Golf can seem technical, but the key is to get out there, enjoy the fresh air, and give it a go. At The Chase, we see beginners every day, and our team is here to help guide you through the process—whether it’s learning the rules or taking your first swing.

Step 2: Start Small with the Essentials

When we talked about gear, the consensus was clear: keep it simple. You don’t need the most expensive clubs or a full set right away. A few essential clubs are all you need to start practicing. The Pro Shop team at The Chase can help you choose what’s right for your skill level and budget. It’s all about making you feel comfortable, not overwhelmed.

Step 3: Use the Right Facilities to Build Confidence

The team couldn’t stop talking about how important the right environment is for beginners. At The Chase, we’re lucky to have facilities that cater to every stage of a golfer’s development:

  • Trackman Driving Range: This is where many beginners start. With real-time feedback and data, it’s like having a personal coach in your pocket. You can track your progress and focus on improving each time you practice.
  • Practice Bays and Warm-Up Areas: Perfect for those first swings of the day, these areas let you ease into the game and finalize your warm-up routine.
  • Short Game Practice: Our chipping and putting greens are ideal for mastering the art of the short game—one of the most rewarding areas to improve as a beginner.

Step 4: Take Advantage of Expert Coaching

One of the biggest takeaways from our chat was just how much coaching can make a difference. Whether you’re learning the basics or refining your technique, having guidance from experienced professionals can help you progress faster and with more confidence. Our coaches are not only skilled but also incredibly approachable. They love seeing beginners grow into confident players.

Step 5: Draw Inspiration from Success Stories

I also asked the team about success stories, and it’s incredible what beginners can achieve with the right support. Some of our junior golfers have started right here at The Chase and gone on to play in major competitions. We’ve even seen players progress to the professional level. Their journeys are a testament to what’s possible when you combine passion, determination, and access to great resources.

Step 6: Find a Community That Supports You

One thing that stood out during our conversation was how much the golf community matters. At The Chase, it’s not just about the game—it’s about the people you meet along the way. Whether you’re joining a beginner’s session or just enjoying a social round, you’ll find a welcoming, inclusive environment that’s perfect for newcomers. The team said it best: “We want everyone to feel like they belong here.”

As the Deputy General Manager, I couldn’t be prouder of what we offer here at The Chase.
