Beginner: The Shame Word

Beginner: The Shame Word

It’s funny how you can be an expert in one area and a complete beginner in another.

One moment, you're the master chef, and the next, you're on YouTube trying to figure out how to tie a shoelace.

They say life comes in stages, and I believe that continual learning is the key to progressing through them.

So, why should anyone feel ashamed of being labelled a "Beginner" or "Newbie"?

When I think about it, I can’t help but laugh at all the times I felt embarrassed to admit I didn’t know something or was still learning.

A few years ago, I was a fresh-faced undergraduate. The teasing and judgment were overwhelming, but am I still that same person today? Definitely not.

Three years ago, I was a newbie wife, and there was so much to learn.

Have I grown since then? Absolutely.

A few months ago, I became a new mom, navigating the early stages of parenting. I admire those who have mastered it, but I know that learning the ropes now will save me from regrets later.

Last year, I didn’t have a newsletter, but here I am today, writing one. And now, I’m on another new journey—a beginner for beginners.

I understand what it’s like to be a beginner, and that’s why I’ve decided to dedicate this space to helping a special group of beginners—undergraduates and fresh graduates.

In the coming months, this newsletter will be your go-to for beginner tips as you prepare for the marketplace. We’ll dive into career lessons, share stories, offer tips, and provide carefully curated resources to help you succeed as you start your career journey. We're starting this journey wisely.

But it doesn’t stop at careers. This newsletter will also touch on lifestyle and voiceover tips, catering to a broader audience.

If you know an undergraduate or fresh graduate you care about, invite them to subscribe to this newsletter for monthly insights. They can also follow me on LinkedIn for daily tips. I already shared some tips. But here, we'll connect once a month.

I’m thrilled to begin this journey with you.

Remember: There’s no shame in being a beginner. Starting something new is a sign of growth. Embrace your beginnings and start wisely.

See you in the next edition!
