Begin!

Begin!

To start, to get going, to do, to commence, but to begin takes guts, a commitment and a desire to make it happen. It won’t be perfect, it can’t be at the beginning. You need a beginning to make the end result awesome, wonderful, delightful and marvellous.

Beginnings scare people. It’s so much easier to sit and talk about what you nearly did, the purchase you were going to make, the job you should have had, the journey you thought about making. It’s easy to sit and blame the weather, the traffic, the people, the job, the politicians or just about anyone and anything for your own inertia.

It takes guts to begin. That first step towards making it happen has to be taken. Beginning means moving out of our comfort zone, putting the slippers away and putting on the boots. It means stepping into the unknown, new territory, making a change, doing things differently and getting out there.

Most people tend to stay put and talk about what they could have, should have done or very nearly did. Somewhere in life I learned that beginning leads on to results.

The wonderful thing about beginning is the learning. As you do, as you make changes, you learn that effort and energy can create amazing results. By beginning you make a difference both to your own life and maybe to others around you. Your actions are infectious and impactful.

Doing nothing achieves nothing. Beginning is the key to achieving amazing results.

A note of caution however, because a beginning is not perfection in itself. That may be way off, but only when we begin do we move forward.

Recently a showreel was created for me. It is good but not great. In my mind I was hoping for Tony Robbins’ style, power, boom and wow. But Tony Robbins has had years of practice and a wealth of experience in Public Speaking. My showreel, was created by a fabulous film maker Paul Wilson who only had me, a beginner, to work with. John Hotowka, an awesome speaker on resilience and managing change, began with a show reel notably different to his current one. He made a start, he learned and moved on to become a huge success. Now he has a wow showreel!

I am happy with my showreel, it’s a beginning. It marks the beginning of a journey, with learned lessons already in the bag for the next one. What matters is that I have begun.

What’s on your agenda to begin?
