Begin with the end in mind

Begin with the end in mind

“Begin with the end in mind” is?the second of the seven habits of highly effective people Dr.?Stephen R.?Covey defines in his book. He defines it. This habit is all about?knowing your purpose?and?what you’re trying to achieve.

?

Habit 2:?Begin with the End?in Mind is about having a plan. If we don't make a conscious effort to visualize who we are and what we want in life, then we empower other people and circumstances to shape us instead. This habit is about identifying where we want to go and who we want to be. The habit is based on the principle that all things are created twice: once in your mind and once in the physical world.

What’s Your Desired Future?

Begin With the End in Mind means to look out across the coming hours, days, weeks, months, and years with a clear vision of your desired destination—and then to proactively pursue that future. Even if your vision is for the future changes, having an end in mind for a meeting, project, or a lifetime gives you more clarity about where to start and how to adapt.

Why am I about to do what I’m about to do?

Answering these questions is the absolute foundation of ‘beginning with the end in mind’. It’s also about fast-forwarding into the future and considering what it looks like there for you. People are typically motivated by the future, not the past and so knowing what you want your future to be can be a strong source of motivation.

?

There’s no better time than today to decide where you want to be tomorrow.

When we begin with the end in mind both at a micro and at a macro level, it gives a destination that allows us to map our way there most successfully.??We look at potential problems that lay along the road to success and adjust as we see necessary.??It also allows us to always have a point to focus back to when we are knocked about a bit.??Though we find ourselves off target, by having an end in mind we readjust to make our end a reality.
