"Begin with the end in mind." Stephen R. Covey
Is this among the best advice ever given on succeeding at just about anything? When we begin with no end in mind, we are sailing out of the port with no destination. Beginning with the end in mind gives us a target for which to aim, and something against which to measure our progress.
Beginning with the end in mind can keep us going when we want to give up, because we can see the goal and the progress we’ve made and how much further we need to go.
Adventurers who attempt the swim across the English Channel are ten times more likely to make it on a clear day than when it is foggy and they can’t see the other side.
Beginning with the end in mind makes it easier to say no to the wrong things and a resounding yes to the right things.
Henry David Thoreau famously said, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”
What is your dream? Take a step in that direction.
