If you are like me, you set New Year’s goals with best intentions, and then often watch those goals go unaccomplished.?Not to worry--the year’s turn is the perfect time to begin again, again!?That is the “present” of the present.?Time allows us to reorient and rediscover the better “us.”?I humbly offer some guidance on New Year’s resolution setting. And for those of you who know me well, I offer an oft repeated quote from my father: “Do as I say not as a do!”
- Select at least one resolution each for your body, mind and soul. My beloved 8th grade teacher Sr. Euphrosine reminded students frequently that the complete person is composed of body, mind, and soul.?She encouraged us always to cultivate a healthy body, develop a quick mind, and create a strong relationship with God and others.?Therefore, I select goals that encourage me be “physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight” (Scouts and parents of Scouts may recognize that phrase).
- Select behavior-changing resolutions broad enough to generate benefits in both your personal and professional life. ?The dividing line has long sense blurred, creating unprecedented integration of our home and work lives. Therefore, I select goals that bring out the best “me” at both home and at work!
- To be accountable, I encourage everyone to conduct family or work group resolution sharing sessions that help turn resolutions into commitments!?
So, go "all in" on at least three behavior changing resolutions -- one each for body, mind, and soul!?And then begin again, AGAIN!
I help students (ages 5-21) develop character and leadership skills. Scouting America offers outdoor and social activities. Parents gain peace of mind knowing their scouts are guided by caring professionals and leaders.
3 年Frank Quattrocchi, I've learned to live with the simple belief that no matter the circumstance, "things happen for us... not to us". You are welcome to print that on a t-shirt. Mahalo.

3 年Well said Q. For me it all begins with deep gratitude for what's been achieved & accomplished this year. What's yet to come in 2022 to reach our goals and make a difference in the world. To better reflect on what we've lost, who got left behind and what remains yet to be achieved together (cause we won't back down). Peace and Happy New Year!
