Before You Say it Cannot be Done

Fortunately, I keep newspaper and magazine clippings of examples of people with a positive can-do attitude. Here is an example of an article from January 2018. Secretary of Defense General James Mattis exhibited what it means to get things done.

He would deliver a speech at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Despite facing travel obstacles that threatened to delay him, the Secretary, faithful to his duty, chose to lead by example. He and his team stepped out of their vehicle and walked the final 15 minutes of their journey to the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

It was a powerful image: six men, led by Mattis, strolled down the sidewalk: three military assistants in uniform and two civilian staff members. This scene suggested the indelible image of former President Harry Truman taking his morning walks down Pennsylvania Ave.

Our president and Congress can learn a lot by walking on some of Washington's sidewalks. They may even gain a "must-do" attitude.

Examples are great; we can all learn from the Secretary’s example and incorporate the MUST DO attitude. It should not matter whether you are a Republican, Democrat, female, male, poor or rich, uneducated or educated. There are only three requirements: you’re an American, committed to making things (small or large) happen for all Americans, and you act doing your part, where you are, and with what you have.
