Before We Get A New Rant, What is Oxford Money Train About?

A few weeks ago, I was surfing the internet, and I found something exciting; no rather, it was appalling -- a painful reality. And, you can go check it up to confirm my claim on the Central Bank of Nigeria's site;

As at March 9, 2022, annual Inflation rate is 15.92%

Then, I did some thinking, no, I took out my book and pen and really did some mathematical calculations, estimations, and more trying to analyze the effect of this "rate" on short and long-term finance.

A scenario played in my mind that illustrated this phenomenon in a relatable way and I believe it will make you see too. In facts, I trust that you will see why the job economy is regarded a rat race now, just follow closely as we inspect the implication of this rate in a beautiful sad story.

A man, who's been stressed for years like myself in the picture, gets a job with a reputable company in Nigeria and he was placed on a starting salary of 250,000 NGN and on his offer letter, just like every qualified Nigerian employee, he'll be due for promotion and a salary increase in 3 years.

This was a big deal, a great one in that. He had to give testimony in church about the good the Lord had done. Imagine how many jobs he had applied for before he landed that cool spot? Everybody was saying; "I tap into your grace sir. God bless you"

And pastor was beaming smiles knowing that the faithful brother will start paying his tithes to time. And, sure, we celebrated with him.

He also became a motivational speaker overnight and before we knew it, he was invited from churches to churches and programs to events to come and impart the grace of 250k job on everybody -- isn't it this same Nigeria?

Recently, I saw him, he was depressed. I was like, "bro, what's up? You look down."

He's been reading the news and he saw this same statement on the CBN portal;

As at March 9, 2022, annual Inflation rate is 15.92%

He wasn't depressed by the news in itself but the fact that he realized that by year 3, when his promotion is due, 100,000 NGN will be added to his salary and he discovered that in actual value, the worth of his would-be new salary of 350,000 NGN is the same as the 250,000 NGN he started with in January this year. Which means he had just successfully moved in circles.

I was concerned and I knew he was right. He had a legit worry.

The job economy alone cannot give you the breakthrough you desire in life, especially if it deals with money. And, I'll break the analysis this brother saw that touched him so much. Read his account below;

It was at 15.92% as of March 2022. And I remembered from high school economics that inflation is the reduction in the value of a currency.

So, it meant that my 250,000 NGN salary that I will be receiving for the next three years before I get promoted will be reducing by at least 15% in value/purchasing power every year?

Which means that at the end of the third year when I am receiving my last 250k salary, I am actually being paid 150k. So I get promoted to start earning say 350,000 NGN to 450,000 NGN but in actual facts the value of this new salary is roughly the same with the 250k salary I started with three years ago.

Okay. Story's done.

Why did I show you through all these?

You need to find a way that the money you're making is making money for you without you doing or putting more more to it.
