Before We Dive Into The Weekend

Well hey there,
It’s great to see you back here again for another Culture Junky LinkedIn Exclusive article. We're winding down the week and ahead of us you probably have a great weekend with friends and family planned, and if you’re anything like me probably with some beer as well to celebrate the holidays before we ring in the New Year next week.?
Before we kick off the weekend and crack open those nice cold beers we’ve had waiting in the fridge for us, it’s time to focus in on our company culture and finish out the week strong with some advice from one of the fathers of philosophy: Aristotle.?
It was Aristotle who said “pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.”?
Right now, we’re closing out a week where the focus has been on the weekend, on the holidays and all those great plans we have.?
Because of that, it’s easy for the focus to be solely on the weekend off, but that shouldn’t be the case. If you’ve been following me on this culture journey for a long time then chances are you have heard me say “you don’t get to pick what is culture and what isn't, it will forever be an average of all the experiences an individual has with your culture.” To sum it up, whenever the clock is ticking, that is a culture experience whether you want it to be or not.?
So during times like the holidays for example, it’s very easy to take your foot off the gas to over the course of the week as the thoughts begin to shift more and more towards the weekend and those holidays get closer and closer.?

At first it doesn’t sound like a huge deal or a big disaster, but the ripple effect caused by it is undeniable. It’s contagious, the more you and your team members begin to let up on the gas, the more momentum is lost. That quote above about culture experiences taking place whenever the clock is ticking, that still holds true leading up to holidays and during times where our focus shifts from the week ahead, to the WEEKEND ahead. The more our focus drifts, the more our team’s focus begins to drifts.?
It all goes back to that quote from Aristotle, the pleasure you get from your job, and the pleasure your team members get from their jobs. It’s that passion and pleasure for what you do that keeps your sense of urgency right where you want it to be year round, even during week’s like this leading up to a holiday. ?
When you and your team members have the passion for what you do the enjoyment comes naturally, and when you pair that with a best in class culture that engages everyone on a day to day basis…. Well that creates the perfect storm for a culture that’s unmatched.?
I hope this week has been a great one for you and your team, and I wish you all a great weekend and happy holidays?
Be good to each other out there, we’ll talk soon.?
