Before the SSD is installed, these three things must be done.

Before the SSD is installed, these three things must be done.

1. the disk initialization

Once the SSD is installed on your computer, it cannot be recognized immediately. You can find a new hard disk in my computer → management → disk management several steps, new volume or new partition can be used. Before the partition, you will be prompted to initialize the disk. To install Win8/Win10 and above, the disk must be in GPT format. If you need to install the system as Win7 or even earlier, you need to convert to MBR format, use the Diskpart command to complete the conversion.

2. 4K alignment

After the SSD partition, check to see if 4K alignment is achieved. Users using Win7 system and above, as long as the original system is used to guide the installation, the system will be self-aligned by using the system's own partitioning tool during installation, without user intervention. You can also manually specify the sector location through DiskGenius third-party partitioning software, so that SSD can achieve maximum performance in actual use.

3. Update firmware

After installing the SSD, check to see if the firmware has been optimized to the latest version. The SSD firmware is like the BIOS on the motherboard. It controls all internal operations of the SSD, which not only directly affects the performance and stability of the SSD, but also affects the life. Excellent firmware includes advanced algorithms that reduce unnecessary writes to the SSD, reducing wear and tear on the flash chip, maintaining performance while extending the life of the SSD.
