Beer VS Wine: A short summary

Beer and wine have long been widely used refreshing beverages, and different situations, occasions, and times of day influence how they are consumed. We conducted a study recently, to examine social media trends and consumer preferences through online discussions related to beer and wine. According to our social listening, there were seasonal peaks and troughs for both beer and wine.

People were talking about their experiences watching the World Cup with a pint of beer during November because it was taking place in Qatar. The top search terms for a beer at this time were stadiums, bottles, Qatar, and alcohol, showing that people love drinking beer while watching sporting events. On the other hand, wine grabbed the lead in July as people shared their joyful experiences with it and referred to it as a means to live life to the fullest during the weekends.

The amount of wine-related chats peaked in the winter and spring, with the winter period suggesting a correlation with holidays like Christmas and New Year. Additionally, wine was also found to be more intimately linked to special occasions like New Year's Eve, Christmas, and Valentine's Day - showcasing it's not just about the weather, but an emotional connection as well. Beer discussions persisted throughout the fall and summer, indicating that beer appeared to be the preferred beverage for people looking to fight off the heat with some chilled alternative.

On Mondays, both beer and wine underperformed in sales but midweeks were dominated by wine, whereas both beer and wine peaked in sales on the weekends when people just prefer to let loose. Interestingly, we found that peak sales for both beer and wine occurred at around (pre)meal times - in the afternoons, starting around 12:00 pm, and in the evenings around 8:00 pm. Between 14:00 and 20:00, the volume of beer remained consistent, demonstrating that it was equally popular all throughout the time period. However, many people prefer to have wine with dinner or a sip before they go to sleep.
