I have sent a grand total of two editions of my newsletter.
One in September 2021 when Liam's Brand Stand was just the name of my newsletter (note old branding) and one in August 2023, when Liam's Brand Stand became my full-time job.
I'm not sure why I find it so hard to write a newsletter consistently, but am guessing it probably has to do with the fact that post an average of 1.5 posts / day on the platform, so my creative juices are tapped thereafter.
But the other day I realized that I had quietly amassed 9,204 subscribers, roughly 1,500 of which subscribed in the last year in spite of my laziness (thank you!)
So I'm going to take another crack at bat and hope I don't strike out.
This edition I want to dive a bit deeper into the post that got the most impressions for me in the last 365 days because
A) it shows how much patience you have to have when prompting AI;
B) it shows how much our networks appreciate posts that are unique, informative, and make them try something new.
It was a post documenting how I used ChatGPT to several LinkedIn avatars using a prompt by the very knowledgable Allie K. Miller .
You upload a picture of yourself and input this prompt:
"Create a 3D illustration of an animated character sitting casually on top of a social media logo “LinkedIn” based on this picture. The background of the image is a social media profile page with a user name “YOUR NAME” and a profile picture that matches the animated character. Use the picture to create the image."
The first one I created looked cool but wasn't an accurate reflection of me because he was super slender and I don't have blue eyes or earrings.
Round 2: Got me some glasses, but the eyes are still blue and this body? Too thin.
Round 3: Nailed the suburban dad thing and ditched the earrings, but STILL wouldn't give me hazel eyes.
Round 4: probably my favorite, save for the 3rd foot, blue eyes, earrings, and hatt hat was both backwards and frontwards at the same time...
Round 5: looks straight out of wreck it Ralph and took plenty of creative liberties to make me look like a bearded Rambo. Still had the blue eyes and earrings, despite my continued attempts to ditch those.
Round 6: FINALLY got rid of the dang blue eyes, but now my earrings expanded into those spacers, which isn't exactly congruent with this clean cut fella here. Not to mention, he's pretty svelte...
Round 7: "Make him fatter" did the trick ??

But I'm an aspirational guy, so I wanted to find something in between.
Round 8: Where did my beard go?! And why am I in a blazer? Have you seen me lately? Eyes checked out but earrings remained, in spite of prompts.
Round 9: We're back to being slim, cool, and devilishly handsome (with earrings).
I decided to mix it up a bit and got some other pretty cool results, even if they weren't any closer to my likeness than the above, really.
The best part about the post was that a bunch of people also did the same and uploaded their examples, making for a comment section that was more fun than the post itself.
And that's ultimately why I wanted to share this with you.
When building your personal brand, if you can create posts that:
1) Inform
2) Entertain
3) Encourage others to try something new
You'll ultimately get a lot of traction.
So follow your fascination.
Write how you talk.
Post your passion.
Engage the engaged.
Be consistent.
Be patient.
I hope you have a marvelous week and spend some time playing with an AI tool or two. The possibilities are truly endless.
