Bedfont Smokerlyzer? Monitors listed for new Stop Smoking Services in Pharmacies

As of March 11th 2022, pharmacies can now provide smoking cessation support to NHS patients as part of the NHS’s bid to make England a smoke-free society.

To provide the service, pharmacies must have a carbon monoxide (CO) monitor (which is suitable for use with pregnant women), and both the Micro+? and piCObaby? Smokerlyzer? CO monitors have been listed for use.

The Smokerlyzer? range of Carbon Monoxide monitors offer Stop Smoking Advisors a quick and easy way to check a smoker’s quit progress through CO Validation, measuring CO in both ppm and %COHb (carboxyhaemoglobin). With a full-colour touchscreen, and a visual traffic-light system motivational guide, the Smokerlyzer? range has successfully been helping people quit smoking for over 35 years. Furthermore, the Micro+? and PiCObaby? Smokerlyzer? monitors have a foetal carboxyhaemoglobin calculator (%FCOHb) to help encourage Mums-to-be to kick the habit.

Not only does this mean more people can seek local Stop Smoking Services, but Pharmacies who take up this service are eligible for reimbursements; an initial reimbursement of £1,000 for the set-up of the service, including the purchase of the monitor and consumables, but for each patient a fee of £30 for the first consultation; £10 for each interim consultation of £10; and £40 for the last consultation of £40.
