All your friends are in Europe, saving for houses, travelling the world modelling, living out of home and here you are — renovating the studio you’ve just leased that is costing you $35,000 a year just to lease this shell, and an extra $20,000 of bills like electricity, EFTPOS fees, workcover and insurance that you didn’t budget for.
You’re still living at home because you’re not taking more than $200 a week to live on. You’re single because your ex told you you’d be a fucking idiot to keep doing Pilates and you left your modelling agency – Chadwicks – this year because you need to be laser focussed on your business.
You were CONVINCED you were going to be a success in the Pilates industry. Your DVD launched this year, you were moving to a bigger venue and you were writing for every top Aus health publication. You were blogging, you booking into every seminar, training and course you could afford.
You invested every spare dollar into your business and you also learned that you could paint, tile and do mild electrical work (how did you not die?!) and also deal with solicitors, crazy landlords and the multitude of suits who laughed they were dealing with a 23 year old girl who taught Pilates for a living and who wanted to be the next Tracy Anderson/Marie Windsor/Tamilee Webb — FYI I love at home exercise DVDs, they were the reason I dropped 20kg when I was 16-18 — and why I wanted to create my own.
Here’s a snap I found when I was browsing my photos trying to find something. I remember this day and how lit up I was to be painting on a Saturday night.
And I wanted to share this with you to just keep fucking going. This is me balls deep into my 4th year in business and I am still going, six years later.
