Becoming the Go To Person

We live in a world where we have to contribute, compete and promote ourselves. The technique is called being a ‘go-to’ person in a specific area.

How do you promote yourself to becoming the ‘go-to’ person?

If you are in sales (and we all are in some capacity) and want to be a master of product, for example, learn everything you can about it, show people what you can do with it, and advertise yourself as the expert so, if there is a question or problem, you become the hero, the resource expert in that space. 

By embracing a point of view, researching the subject, talking to thought leaders, and sharing the information, you can promote yourself as the ‘go-to’ person.

Here’s an example of how this applies in our world:

What’s your first reaction when you close a deal? When the sale is fresh in your mind, take a few minutes to review it and write down what you did right. What steps did you take? What were the factors under your control that contributed to the sale? 

As we prepare for another splendid year, let’s not reinvent the wheel every time. Instead, focus on the winning behaviors that you can replicate to make sure you have a good chance of winning again.
