Becoming a Force for Good

Becoming a Force for Good

Mike Robbins is the author of five books, an expert in teamwork and leadership, and a speaker, recognized for his thoughts on being a Force for Good. He contends that, “Being a force for good doesn’t mean we have to be happy or always find the silver lining. It’s more about making a commitment to ourselves and to those around us that we’ll be part of the solution instead of simply commenting on or adding to the problems themselves.” He has offered the following ways to?become a force for good:

1.????? Look for ways to help others. You can always find some way.

2.????? Be proactive with others in our complaints. Complaining without action does not make things happen.

3.????? Don’t get caught in the drama. Don’t listen to all the voices, choose for yourself.

4.????? Speak up with authenticity. It is defined as honesty – self-righteousness+ vulnerability.

5.????? Be grateful. Give thanks. Remember, “Circumstances don’t define us, they reveal us.”?(Greek philosophy)

Being a Force for Good requires us to strive to a higher calling, a purpose and direction beyond who we are and what we are doing today. How do we find our purpose, our higher calling? If you have been following me at all you know by noy that I believe the best way to address any need is through asking questions. Your highest calling can be found at the intersection of the following four questions:

? What do you love?

? What does the world need?

? What are you good at?

? What can you get paid for?

Is it that simple? No, as you seek the answers to these questions you must then set some outrageous and courageous goals with some specific key performance indicators (KPI’s) working as a Force for Good! Nothing against Mike's point of view but I feel that this is just too complex.

I suggested a similar set of items to consider in my previous article on Why Do I Exist? in which I explored this age-old question of existence. It was an exercise in trying to find my Purpose in Life. Purpose?can be defined?as something that is meaningful to you and, you believe, may be of consequence to the world beyond. Your purpose can help you organize your life, give you a clear direction, and?motivate you?— especially when you encounter life’s?inevitable setbacks and disappointments.

The first point was to identify what I care about the most. Although I have a long list of things I value, at the top of the list was my faith in God, my family, and TRUTH. Second, it was a little harder in identifying what I am good at, and what I am not. The jury is still out a little here. Third, what I enjoy doing was a little more straight forward. I enjoy helping others, working to make a better world. Thus, the focus of my newsletter. I am truly passionate about TRUTH and feel that its pursuit can help people in ways I can now only imagine. Finally, we must come to understand what impact we want to have on the world and what struggles, disappointments, and hard work are we willing to endure.

Boiled down into a single statement… I believe that...My Purpose is to serve God, Impact the lives of others, and help to make the world a little better! Related, I have established my vision for OneTRUTH Leadership, my mission now, as Discovering Truth – Changing Lives!

Having offered this, my quest is to now find like-minded people, willing to set aside egos, make an investment, and apply their talents and abilities to become a Force for Good in the world today. I have come to understand that you cannot be a force of one, that it takes others to have the ability to fight and overcome evil in the world today.

Are you willing to join me? I would love to talk with you more about it.
