There’s Lady Gaga famous and then there’s Barbara Corcoran famous, right? There are levels of notoriety we have the potential to reach in our professional careers, in our podcasting endeavors, and so on. And that’s what I want to talk about today. Is it possible to drive a media career with a great podcast?
I recently had a guest who not only walked me through how this is possible but also gave proof, based on his own show and success thus far.?Adam Posner?shared how he got into podcasting and how he built and course-corrected his podcast over the course of nearly 200 episodes. Adam talks about lessons he’s learned and even how he moved towards the monetization of his?podcast.
The World Is Your Oyster
Adam, also known as Poz, is burning things up in the recruiting space, which doesn’t seem like it would be super hot for podcasting. You think maybe this belongs on LinkedIn or maybe as a live stream, but he has done both and it’s done well — which is a great point of discussion — how to thrive in your own niche and maybe even get a little bit famous.?Adam?is no stranger to the limelight, having aired over?200 episodes?with heavy hitters like?Gary Vee,?Grant Cardone, and?Tucker Max, where he specializes in talent access for senior-level roles in digital marketing, eCommerce, and content.
How to Make A Podcast Work for Your Business
The thing you’re really trying to get across to your listeners and even clients is that you’re relatable, you’re a person, you’re authentic and you know what you’re talking about. You are giving them an inside angle on who you are, what you stand for, and what you’re capable of. This is what makes podcasting so effective and such a smart strategy. I cannot tell you the number of times my clients at?Podetize?will tell me that they’re seeing 2x or 3x growth just from their launch and their show.
“Relatability is so important. I model myself after Howard Stern in the way that he is a genius interviewer, because he does the prep work. I do a ton of research, I get to know my guests, and build an outline but I am not just reading questions in a row. I am engaged, I am listening, I am totally tuned in. Because this is how I work at my agency too, and my listeners and guests really get to see that level of commitment I have and the passion I have for what I’m doing.”
Binge Factor Truth Bomb:?You don’t want to be off your game when a guest comes in. Prep is just as much part of the show as anything else.
“I went into a show as a guest and the host had no idea I once worked for (and got fired) Gary Vaynerchuk. I milk that, I put it everywhere and I just knew at that moment she had not prepared for the show. As a guest, that’s very off-putting. If you don’t do your research as a host, you’re failing your audience and you’re definitely not putting your best foot forward.”

Converting Guests Into Clients
Adam says 50–70% of the guests he reaches out to are decision-makers of companies he wants to do business with. He built an entire flow, based on this information, because he could see that a show had so much more potential than cold-calling and emailing. Growing his network, rubbing shoulders with and interviewing these top decision-makers, is one more checkbox towards notoriety. It’s all about getting your name out there and becoming a household name in your niche.
Binge Factor Truth Bomb:?Monetize your guest, not your audience.
Give the People What They Want
Adam’s audience are job seekers. They are listening in because they want to know what they should be doing to get that offer and that contract or that interview. So it only makes sense to offer them exactly what they’re looking for. A great example of this is when Adam interviewed the CEO of Logitech, Bracken Darrell, and dug right into what his interview questions are for a job seeker. Knowing your audience allows you to understand what they want from you.
Make the Most of Your Time
The more you repurpose your content, the more places you can show up and let people get to know you.
“I learned from the best. I learned from Gary Vee’s content pillar. I was there years ago. The Gary Vee content pillar platform has had to take one piece of content and turn it into 100 different pieces. I take that to heart. I could take an episode. I could chop it up into sound clips, soundbites, audiograms, and social media posts. That process has been a funny one to evolve.”
Binge Factor Truth Bomb:?The louder you are, the more popular you are, the more trolls and haters you attract. This is part of the notoriety and you have to just put it in your mind that anyone who trolls is beneath you and not worth the effort or time.
