Anti-fragile organizations go beyond resilience or robustness. They get stronger with stress, volatility, unexpected abrupt changes. Successful start-ups often tend to be anti-fragile; large organizations tend sometimes to be fragile, and that's why they may fail in front of disruption. Most large and successful organizations do not like volatility, randomness, uncertainty, disorder, errors, stressors, and chaos. Yet we are in a world where disruption and unexpected changes are increasing. Covid-19 is a sad and dramatic example of this.
Crises and major disruptions are not an abrupt departure from what anti-fragile organizations do continuously: solving new problems and adapting. Rather than being controlled through rigid command structures, employees at all levels are trained every day to be quick problem-solvers. A disruption or crisis that might be crippling for some organizations is a challenge they already know how to handle. Clearly, to do this, anti-fragile organizations are amazing at perceiving the world, both the internal and the external one.
Due to Covid-19 and the dramatic acceleration in disruption at large that we will see in the next years, it is necessary to establish and operate anti-fragile ICT systems that limit the impact of all incidents, and which learn from small-impact incidents how to function increasingly well in changing environments. In addition, we must move towards an “adaptable data-driven organization” which embraces continuous improvements and is structurally “antifragile”.
To become anti-fragile, your organization must develop and maintain advanced data-driven mechanisms for listening to customers and employees, as well as a brilliant problem management systems that quickly identified needed actions and improvements.
Artificial Intelligence may do magic in helping you in this.
On June 8, World Oceans Day which celebrates the role of the oceans in our everyday life, we will discuss various ways and concrete examples of how Technology and Artificial Intelligence can help you and your organization becoming Anti-fragile.
