Become Your Own Greatest Experiment

Become Your Own Greatest Experiment

Do you tell yourself, "When this project finishes, then I'll reclaim balance in my life?" The problem is that one project quickly gets replaced by another, time marches on, and before long it becomes a never-ending story of overwhelm.

You are definitely not alone. According to a recent LinkedIn poll I conducted, 74% of participants report that their current pace of work is not sustainable long term.

Energy Audit

How do we tangibly break the cycle of overwhelm and regain control over our calendars? Surprisingly, it doesn’t start with your calendar – it starts with your energy levels.

This week, one of my clients (who has given me permission to share this) has been conducting a daily energy audit. She tracks her energy levels upon waking, notes the percentage of energy required for the day ahead, and predicts moments of energy abundance or energy deficits.

"On days when you have 40% energy and give 40%, you’ve actually given 100%!" – Dr Hannah Roberts

Now, having an energy deficit for one day isn’t necessarily a problem, but when that deficit occurs day after day, over time, it leads to burnout.

Active Burnout Prevention

Lately, I've been focusing on optimising different elements of my business with my Operations Manager, the brilliant Hope Chauland . Our mantra is:

"What gets measured, gets improved." – Daniel Priestley

My invitation to you is to be your own greatest experiment. Let’s get scientific: conduct your own energy audit over the next 7 days. Let me know what you discover!

Take Radical Action

Just as you wouldn’t feel comfortable letting your phone battery drop into the red zone, don’t allow this to happen to yourself.

If you foresee an energy deficit for your day, use that data to make informed decisions. What can you cancel, move, or drop? Listen to how Dr Rachel Dunmore, MRSC (??? iTunes│??? Spotify ) implemented these techniques (among others) to prevent burnout, thrive in all areas of life, and inspire others to do the same.

Your Sacred Calendar

When we give from a place of abundance, we have more than enough energy to give – and this is true generosity.

When we give from a place of deficit, we enter the realm of self-sacrifice. Self-sacrifice says: "If I deplete myself to please you, in return, you must like me, approve of me, praise me, promote me, protect me," etc. Whether consciously or unconsciously, there’s always a silent condition that accompanies self-sacrifice.

You wouldn’t let your phone battery go into the red and then hand it over to someone else to drain completely, leaving it without power and no charger. Don’t do this to yourself!

Data is Power

Let data be the source of powerful discernment, because everything starts with replenishing your energy. That’s why energy is the foundational layer of my Career Pivots? Compass Methodology.

Hannah
