It’s back! JobsForHer’s MentorForHer Roadshow is hitting the road this summer, giving women returnees across India the opportunity to be mentored by seasoned professionals and experts from various industries.
This April and May, JobsForHer is teaming up with Klay and Women’s Web for 2017’s Mentoring Roadshow across 6 cities - Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore.
MentorForHer is a platform for women who want to restart their careers, where they can learn from others who have done it before them. It’s a chance for mentors to inspire women returnees, and guide them on their exciting journey back to work. JobsForHer’s mentors are experienced and trusted advisors, who understand the challenges that women returnees face.
Achyut Menon, a Career Architect and Talent Mentor from Hyderabad at the last Roadshow, wrote about how he loved the energy of this talent pool. “It was ironical that almost all the ladies seemed low on confidence, almost at the end of their wits. And that despite being well qualified, had stints in the industry, in India and some even abroad, and post a sabbatical! It was admirable that they had shed their inhibition and made it to the event, keen to explore how they could catch the attention of those who mattered.”
Achyut’s advice to corporate recruiters is to tap into this talent pool of committed, experienced women restarters who are hungry to make a difference. He also accurately points out that while active job seekers in the market tend to chase several offers before negotiating the best package, women returnees are available to start work immediately, with negligible notice period. They’re also committed, loyal and want to prove themselves - all qualities that companies should look for in new hires.
Why You Should Be A Mentor
Becoming a mentor gives you the golden opportunity to guide women returnees through the process of restarting their careers. As a mentor, you have the power to show women what they are fully capable of, by sharing your own career growth story.
Many women lack the confidence to go back to work, because they’ve taken a career break. As a mentor, you can give them real world advice based on your own experience and help them build the confidence they need to take that first step. You can show them how trials and obstacles only make the will to get back to work stronger, and learn about the difficulties they face in restarting their careers. These insights can be useful to companies designing women-friendly policies as well.
As a mentor on our MentorForHer Roadshow this year, you get the chance to meet and mentor women returnees in person; you could also be featured as a mentor on JobsForHer, and gain access to followers from our growing tribe of women returnees. We also organise online webinars for mentors to share advice and tips with women returnees.
Think about it this way: the more women you inspire, the more women will re-enter and shape the work force… and that’s a growth story we should all be part of.
So if you have senior leaders at your company, men or women, who would be great mentors, OR if you are a leader who wants to mentor women returnees - we’d love to have you on board! Just send an email to [email protected] to learn more about how you can be a mentor at The MentorForHer Roadshow 2017.
