Become the Master of Your Mind

Become the Master of Your Mind

In the picture above you see me finishing a Spartan race this year. The physical part is only one aspect. The mental part is the biggest obstacle if one wants to conquer all these obstacles.

Would you like to master your mind? You can if you are willing to practise thinking thoughts that serve you rather than hold you back.

The way we think is very powerful.

Unfortunately most of the time people are on autopilot and they have no idea how their thoughts impact their overall life experience.

Did you know that we average about 60,000 thoughts a day, and 80 % of these thoughts tend to be negative?

Of course it is impossible to monitor every single thought that goes through your head BUT your feelings are a great measure of the quality of your thoughts.

It is impossible to feel bad and think good thoughts. Do you get my point?

Here are a few questions for you to consider:

  • Have you ever considered that the only genuine problem you may have is your perspective?
  • Do you have a mental strategy to keep your emotions in check?
  • Without blaming someone else, what could you have done to help preventing a mistake?

Years ago I read a Cherokee story, which has left a big impression on me. Today I would like to share this story with you.

One evening, an elderly Cherokee brave told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “my son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. One is evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “the one that you feed.”

Which one do you feed?

Food for Thought:

It is easy to criticize others for their shortcomings. When was the last time you took a critical look at yourself and your own level of excellence?
