You have just graduated college with a degree in Travel and Tourism that took 4 years and left you with student loans up the Yin Yang. You did a private course in Event Management which cost you another couple of thousand dollars and you get offered a little bit more than minimum wage job at a high street travel agency.  Or maybe you are a single Mum as I was needing to make some money in-between school runs and hockey matches. No travel agent experience. Not wanting to sell Avon or Protein shakes and have a love of travel… if you can remember what travel is these days with kids, family, less disposable income etc. You would love to be able to travel again but how??? So You buy a home based franchise for up to $19,000. You get training for a week and then what? Your neighbours may book travel right? Yes great! … they take a week of your time back and forth and eventually book a week in Punta Cana and your first paid commission arrives for a whopping $17.20. 

No I did not put the zero in the wrong place. Commissions on individual travel is terrible these days.

It really can be an uphill and daunting thought.

I did all that myself. I was so disappointed that I really wasn’t able to make much money as a travel agent and this was back in the day when commissions were more than double what they are now.

let me give you some numbers… (I can prove these to you if you don’t believe me! )

In 2005 when I started I bought a well known home based travel franchise for $15,600. I was a single young widow at home working with 4 kids from age 2 in an unfinished basement.

In Year one I planned 8 destination weddings. I made $83,000. 

In my second year I did 28 weddings….Ya Do the Math! 

In my third year I got help and did 72 weddings and in my fourth we became much bigger and the business boomed. I won tons of awards. Gained huge recognition and long standing partners in the industry and all this from very very humble beginnings.

Now I want to help you. I had very little help from my national Home based host company despite the high joining fee. people in the industry helped me and are still my friends today.

I was trained for a week then pushed out on my own. Had they seen my potential I am sure their attitude would be different and as I have stepped up on many stages to receive top awards with the owners of the initial company sitting in the same room – I’m sure they kick themselves sometimes..

Now I know what its like. It was hard for me as it will be for you…BUT

I see your potential. I know what you can do as I did it.

Its not easy. Nothing ever is and you will have to graft and work hard to carve your own niche.
