Beckenham's Bowie Bandstand
When the great legend David Bowie took to the iconic bandstand in Croydon Road Recreation Ground, Beckenham in 1969 it sparked a revolution in musical history.
On visiting this iconic landmark a few weeks ago I confess I become quite emotional when I saw how this once buzzing and funky landmark had become 'de-funked' and all but forgotten.
Following a few days of reminiscing and nostalgia I came across a post by Bromley Council shared by Beckenham Business Association about forthcoming plans to restore this precious Grade 2 listed site that means so much to so many people, not just Bowie fans. I was delighted!
My immediate thought when I saw this 'dejected' little landmark was that sometimes tradition really benefits from preservation.
This reflection brought to mind the importance of reimagining our cherished traditional foods, ensuring their preservation and carrying them into a kinder, more sustainable future to be enjoyed by future generations.
