Because MEN matter...
Enter November...
It is that time of the year again, where I shave a year's worth of beard, to raise awareness for a cause dear to the heart.
I am not very comfortable with how I look now, but hey, men's health is one of the least discussed topics, and it is time we talk about it.
One in two men (1/2) will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime... That is 50 % of men will be having cancer at some point in their lives.*
Every one man out of three (1/3) suffers from high blood pressure, and heart disease is the number one leading cause of death in men, followed by cancer.*
Compared to women, Men on average live five years less, they are 1.5 times more likely to die with cancer, 2 times more likely to die from liver disease, and 3 times more likely to have HIV.*
Men are 24 % less likely to go to the doctor than women.*
The numbers are scary.
Yes we have been raised to believe that men are strong, that men do not cry, that men do not get depressed, that men need to suck it up and move on. We casually brush pain and walk it off...
But men are also human beings, with all their fragility and emotional disorders.
Take your physical and mental health issues seriously, get a full check up every 6 months, all illnesses maybe prevented or kept under control if discovered early.
You might be a father, a brother, a son, a husband, a lover, and no matter what you are, you are valuable to someone, many depend on you, and you know what life is so beautiful to let go early or not be able to fully embrace its beauty due to disabilities...
Act before it is too late. Talk to your physician now and get an appointment.
Join the movement, help raise awareness by shaving your face and letting your mustache grow. This will help spark conversations about awareness.
