Because it's fun

Because it's fun

"What's in it for you?"

"How are you going to monetize this?"

"What's the point?"

All good questions that are reasonable to ask of the daily prayers I say to the Jobu doll in my office.

And all questions I've gotten about the recent launch of the game Tonger.

It's a game born from a February conversation about how fun it would be to start a new sports league, while I happened to be holding kitchen tongs.

My first thought was, "Well, it would be fun to throw **** with tongs."

And I was right. It is fun.

And it's even more fun to do it while dancing to the smooth melody of a remixed "Ain't nobody got time for that" by Sweet Brown.

And even more fun when I'm wearing my ridiculous Florida man hat.

And even more fun when I created an AI Board of Directors for the World Tonger Federation to include a puppy with a military rank.

Colonel Cuddlesworth

And even more fun when I saw friends start playing their own versions of Tonger in South Dakota, Michigan, Georgia and even Thailand.

Throwing something with a cooking utensil for its own sake is pure magic.

Does it treat depression? Yes.

Does it create new neural pathways? Absolutely.

Does it increase social bonds, improve serotonin modulation and do a bunch of other things that can generally only be achieved with a bag of magic mushrooms? You bet.

But that's not the why.

The why...is because it's fun.

Because it's stupid. And ridiculous. And has a kinda offensive logo that makes people either laugh or cringe, both of which I consider a win.

If you have something ridiculously fun in your life, lean into it.

Forget the "why" the world tries to shove down your throat as if you're a 5-year-old with an incoming spoon full of expired applesauce.

That part will work itself out.

You're here to have fun. You knew that when you were a kid.

Time to remember it as an adult.

So put on some ridiculous music, don an even more ridiculous outfit, give yourself an even more preposterous name, pick up a pair of tongs, throw something, and let it be your portal back home.

Back to your inner child who knew everything you ever needed to know.

Before "monetize" and "metrics" and "self-interest" became words to you.

That kid is screaming to come out and play again.

If you want to be a part of the irreverence revolution, give us a follow on YouTube and Instagram at PlayTonger .

And let that kid run wild and throw stuff again.

Because it's fun.
