Speaking at Durban Surf Lifesaving Club

Because I have always had a lot to say....

Since getting the go-ahead from my medical team in Cape Town to travel, I have been pretty busy with speaking engagements.

My thanks to SMG Cape Town for my safe ride to get around in South Africa and to Thule for the roof racks for when I can really get back to paddling again.

On my way from Cape Town to Durban, my hometown and where most of my family reside, I stopped off at East London to do 2 speaking sessions at the Border Canoe Club - one in the afternoon to the youngsters and one in the evening to the adults.

Just one of the responses I received was:

Thanks for an inspirational talk!
Just like making your incredible race results look effortless, I am sure there is a huge amount of effort, tenacity and fight going on in the background to be where you are today.
Please may I convey my absolute respect for all your achievements, respect that has been further enhanced by the amazing message of hope that you are so entertainingly and positively distributing!
You are a true Legend!
Thank you.

Back in Durban

Besides catching up with my family and friends, I have given two "live" talks and one online talk to a group of over 100 estate agents from Greeff Christie’s International Real Estate.

Wayne Thompson hosted a talk at Butcher Boys Umhlanga where I was happy to present to some old friends from way back when and some new ones. My thanks to Wayne for organising such a fabulous event.

Durban Surf Lifesaving Club was where my love for the ocean started when I became a Nipper. Giving a talk there made me feel a bit nostalgic but also proud to be able to share my story. My strength and will to succeed at sports started when I was a "lighty" running around North Beach and has, to this day, given me the courage and determination to fight my current challenge - Multiple Myeloma Cancer.

Since these talks, Carte Blanche aired a story on my battle with this incurable cancer and my phone has gone crazy!

Keep going Oscar, you are a legend. I also have fond memories of Durban Surf Club and North Beach. I swum for Durban Surf Clubs first team in the SA Champs way back in 1960/1961.
