#BEAUTY

BEAUTY means so many different things to so many people, which is why this category is going to get some interesting entries. For me, beauty doesn’t necessarily just mean glam or perfection. It’s your interpretation of beauty that I am interested in.

Personally I love images that are provocative and try to say something. There are so many different areas of beauty for you to explore and experiment with. Some photographers I find particularly exciting in this category area: Marilyn Minter, Nadia Lee Cohen, anything by Irving Penn, Richard Burbridge or Leslie Zhang.

I’ve always enjoyed shooting beauty and playing with the concept of what beautiful means. Take this picture that I shot of Misty with make-up artist Marco Antonio. We shot it for Pride a few years ago for Hunger Magazine and the iconography is powerful! 

But beauty is up to you!

All I want you to do is get out there shooting or find something you’ve already posted and add #2020rankin #beauty. This isn’t about being the best or most professional photographer. It’s not about quality of the image. It’s about what the subject means to you. Whether it’s a smart phone or a large format camera, it really doesn’t matter.
