The beauty of Dell Technologies lies in the diversity of its people

Being in a #diverse environment was always very natural for me. Studying internationally gave me the chance to surround myself with the most amazing friend group that everyone can only wish for and allowed me to meet new people around the world, and learn about our #differences , but about our #similarities too.?

After finishing my university studies, I sat down in my room and started thinking about what environment I can see myself working in. I knew one thing. I want to work in an international company. Whoever knows me, knows that I am a big supporter of #diversity, in any sense. I appreciate each culture, and I am always very curious to discover more, to learn different languages and hear about different customs/traditions, or to just see how people have different mindsets and different approaches to situations.?

Being a Hungarian, born in Slovakia, I was always a bit concerned about being accepted. When I heard of the Finance Graduate Program from my friends, I thought why not give it a try? Dell Technologies is a big company, so I will for sure learn something new, and it sounded challenging enough to give it a go.?

I was right. I was actually more than right. When I started in March on my role, I fell into an environment with a group of #professionals, and when I tell you that as a fresh graduate with only a few years of experience, I was still thinking that this will be the hardest thing in my life, then I am not lying! You have that picture when in the movies the new girl walks into the classroom, and everyone is giving her weird stares and whispering behind her back? Now, this is what I was expecting. I do not know if it relates to the popular cultural misconception, that Hungarians have a very negative way of thinking, and always think about the worst case scenario first, or if I was just overthinking, but I have never been more wrong.?

Dinner with my team

I was most pleasantly surprised by Dell Technologies , and by my team on my first day and the days following. They were the complete opposite of what I was thinking before, and they immediately included me in everything, supported me along the way and I never even once felt out of place. I started to build relationships within my team with people from different age groups, backgrounds, mindsets, and stories.??

Then in August, my Finance Graduate Program started, and I was dropped into a different environment with a bunch of new people. The stress about being accepted into the group has begun again. I calmed myself with the thought that they were people of my age, with similar work experience to mine, what could go wrong? I decided to go with the flow. I was again surprised in the best way possible. I can tell you, we have the most diverse group, everyone has a completely different personality, and every one of us is unique in our own way, and I find this extremely beautiful about this whole Finance Graduate Program experience.?

Movie night with my FGP classmates

During the year, we attended many programs, and events helping different causes, let it be supporting women, learning about new cultures?& the #lgbtq+ community, or standing up for the rights of people. We had many Q&A sessions, where we could ask questions, without judgment, without any bad feelings, just out of respect, freely, and have conversations about topics we were interested in.

Dell Technologies gave us the opportunity to join groups with like-minded people and let us bloom, by providing us with a safe place to speak and to truly be ourselves. We learned how to appreciate, respect, and support each other and all the communities. Dell Technologies taught us the real value of #teamwork, and that whatever happens, you will always have your team to support you and have your back. ?

These are the values I can identify with; these are the values that I carry in my everyday life as well.?

My only advice for the future FGPs, and for anyone is, that please walk with open minds, and with open hearts wherever you go because you might miss out on experiences, lessons, and stories that you will regret deeply in the future because those moments are the ones, you will never get back. Please be kind to each other. Being understanding, accepting, and letting everyone be their authentic self is the only way we can grow as individuals, and as a community. Let’s adore our similarities and celebrate our differences!?
