Following its nationwide success, A Cut Above arrived this week in New York - a free haircare service for young adults experiencing homelessness launched by Gen-Z beloved Hair Proud. In partnership with nonprofit organizations, StandUp For Kids and New Alternatives, young adults from homeless shelters across the city arrived at Barba Grooming Boutique for their service, which included healthy haircare, personalized styling and shared homeless experiences with stylists. See wrap up video on here:
It follows two months of the Hair Proud A Cut Above program, which has taken place in seven states across the US, empowering the 4.2 million young adults currently experiencing homelessness one haircut at a time. And, with 48% of consumers planning to decrease their spending on beauty items, the A Cut Above program is part of Hair Proud’s ongoing mission to champion accessible self-care.
“Hair Proud was created for everybody – no matter your hair texture, type, length or color, with a commitment to keeping our price point accessible and quality high. Our mission to empower our community is inclusive to all, and hope A Cut Above is a step towards instilling self-confidence in youths experiencing homelessness. We are proud to be partnering with the amazing ongoing work that StandUp for Kids is doing for young people and championing accessible self-care and a community inclusive to all.”? Nora Zukauskaite, Global Marketing Director at I am Proud
“Young people work very hard to fit in and not look homeless. The longer they are on the street, the harder that becomes. Imagine - when you finally want to make a change - not having anywhere to clean up. A fresh do is an excellent start - this is why we are proud to partner with Hair Proud to raise awareness through this campaign." says Kelly Fields, Executive Director at StandUp for Kids
