Beauty or the Beast? Hi or Bye to AI?

Artificial Intelligence which is taking by storm the entire industries, makes many people uneasy and raises tough questions about ethics, workforce, security, privacy, bias, fake, loss of control on critical processes, and much more. Some fear the apocalypse, others see the gardens of AI Eden. And many, if not majority, are levitating somewhere in between, not sure if they should say "Hi" or "Bye" to AI.

Are humans facing a Cornelian Dilemma? Or there is no dilemma and no choice because the future hegemony of AI is inevitable? Well, let’s face it. The invention of AI is revolutionary! Maybe even more than the invention of the internet or smartphone. AI has the power to fundamentally change the way humans live and work. We can expect that the “Before AI Era” will be gone with the wind and as distant as “Before Internet” and “Before Smartphone".

For decades, people were fantasizing about machines becoming smarter than humans and now this fantasy turns into reality before our eyes. Computers, compared to our brains, operate at cosmic speed. With generative AI they can embrace the whole galaxy of data and generate logic and creative answers in milliseconds. However, AI is not perfect yet and sometimes provides bizarre results. For example, when you ask AI for advice about real stuff, it may suggest non-existing solutions. It also struggles with the math. Not mentioning all those beautiful AI-made pictures with stunning faces...but hands with four fingers. However, this is the clumsiness of AI in its infancy. When it matures it will become better very quickly.

The question "Hi or Bye to AI" dominates public debates but it is worth to highlight that AI is technology and as such it is ethically neutral. It can become good or bad in the angels or demons’ hands - used for good or bad purposes. Therefore the focal point of all discussions should be answering to the question of how to use the power of AI for good things that can solve human problems and how to mitigate the risk that it goes out of our control and becomes ugly.
