BEAUTIFUL WRITING INSPIRES BEAUTIFUL WRITING.
As a child, it took me a long time to learn how to do 'joined up writing' and I in fact cheated until I was around 13 by printing my words and then just running a connecting line under each letter. When I finally 'got it' and found I could join my letters properly and with some artistic flair, I was immediately won over. At the age of 67 I still get complimented on my 'beautiful' handwriting and nothing gives me more joy than writing longhand. So when I watch an episode of 'Game of Thrones' and see some of the beautiful writing that appears on their scrolls and in their hand-made books, it just thrills me no end. Anytime I come across Illuminated lettering it sends me scurrying to my nearest pen and notebook because it just looks so beautiful! And I just write. And write. And write.
I just hope and pray that, in this push-button, technological world, people do not forget how to do proper handwriting. It is an art-form. It is the opportunity to express oneself. It is a magical link between the brain and the hand, with a big helping of heart thrown in. It is imperative it does not disappear just because clicking keys on a keyboard (as I am doing now, of course) is more expected, convenient or quicker. When I write my soul is there for all to see. And I hope others also feel that joy when they scrawl words across the page. Bring back beautiful pens and good quality paper. Nothing beats them.
