- Pune also has been well known for its automobile & manufacturing hub; Automobile companies such as -Tata Motors, Bajaj, Mahindra, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Bentley Systems, Thermax, GE, Audi, KBS pumps etc. So the job opportunities are galore.
- Work culture: It is pretty diverse. People from all over the country join these renowned firms. The companies here have a great diversified work culture e.g. Amdocs, Symantec, ZS Associates, TCS etc. are well known for their amazing open work culture environment.
- Cleanliness: Pune is relatively clean & IT parks such as Magarpatta City, EON IT Kharadi are the Trendsetters. The roads, streets and surroundings are clean. PMC should get the credit for that.
- Traffic sense: Few of the roads are narrow which leads to a lot of congestion especially during office hours & in evening. Adding to that a lot of unfinished projects are still going on which adds to the commuter woes (e.g. Such as Hinjewadi bridge construction). People do have good traffic sense when compared to other city commuters, Pune commuters have great sense of sincerity obeying traffic rules & whosoever breaks the law the cops are smart enough to catch you and penalised you hefty price on breaking the law (If you're an outsider you need to be extra cautious while obeying traffic rules as out of state number plates & vehicles aren't permitted legally to drive within city). If you aren't carrying NOC, Transfer papers, Smart Card registration and are being caught you will be facing lots of trouble.
- Public Transportation: Public transportation can been a real problem if you are new to the city as the buses are always overcrowded and there are not enough buses available on all the routes. Connectivity within the city is limited with public transport, but in case you want to go to Pimpri/Chinchwad/Wakad(which are the suburbs), then there are no frequent direct buses from the main bus terminals. Its a must to have your own vehicle in Pune else survival chances are extremely less. Auto rickshaws are the most expensive in Pune with 20 Rs/Km (17Rs/Km actual first charge/km) however there's no meter system being followed unlike other cities such as Mumbai & Ahmedabad. Few good honest autowalas do follow meter system and are always willing to offer help depending on you as how you talk to them in a nice polite manner respecting them rather than arguing for prices. Nowadays there's a huge battle going on between Uber Cabs & Autowalas as Uber has been expanding its business within the city to provide services at a very affordable prices on meter system. It's always advisable to book a Uber cab and travel in city if you are new in town as the Auto Fares are way too above for a common man. Uber charges 6 Rs/Km with almost 50% discount, exclusive offers & cashback. It is available 24*7 depending on the areas though however the ongoing battle between Uber cabs and autowalas for survival of the fittest will affect you as a daily commuter .
- Safety: It's quite safe. I can attest to this fact. Girls can travel easily within the city during late hours.
- Variety of food/Nightlife: Pune boasts of some amazing restaurants. From street food to a sumptuous meal you can find almost everything. It has good bakeries too. Do not even get me started on the pubs and discs in Pune. They are reason, Pune's so awesome. They are in abundance. So, its a great place to either drown your sorrows or dance it away.
- Education: It is known as the 'Oxford of The East' with lots of well reputed schools & colleges. The list goes on forever starting with the well know Pune University, Symbiosis College, Fergusson College, BJ Medical, Sinhgad College, D.Y. Patil College, Bharati Vidyapeeth University, MIT, FIITJEE (Film & Television) , Sikkim Manipal University, BIMM (Balaji Institute), College of Military Engineering, Ness Wadia Commerce College & many more (List goes on forever)
- Entertainment options: Umpteen. Malls and multiplexes are galore. Now a 15 screen multiplex has also opened. Laser tag, Bowling, Go Karting, Ice skating, Plane gliding are other options too. Pune is full of Malls and multiplexes, Pubs & Discos such as Westin Pune, Oakwood, JW Marriott, Pasha, Hard Rock Cafe, MMyra, Irish Village, Chillies, Baner PanCard Club, Atmosphere 6 (Viman Nagar). There are hangout places at every other corner of the city. Just go out & explore the entire city you will fall in love
- Weekend destinations: It is close to Mahabaleshwar, a well-known tourist spot. It is also close to Lonavala and Khandala, another great weekend getaways. The Sinhagad Fort provides an interesting trekking option. Lavasa is also close-by & you can catch a direct bus from F.C. Road. Many other tourist famous spots such as Parvati Temple, Jadhavgadh Fort, Pune Race Course & much more.
- Climate: Pleasant. It receives optimum rainfall and it is not very hot. The winters are the best. The climate is the best thing about the city which makes it an ideal destination. Pune does not have a very hot climate when compared to other states, even during peak summer the air is cool and even standing under a tree can give respite from the heat. The nights in Pune are significantly pleasant than most other parts in this region owing to its high altitude. The city often receives local and heavy thundershowers with heavy downpours starting in May and lasting till December sometimes (Recently heavy rains occurred in Dec '2014), which brought down the temperature to a quite drastic level. The rainy season can sometimes be gloomy, with cloud cover for days together. In winter, Day temperatures can be as low as 24 - 28°C and temperatures at night as low as 5 - 8°C (Freezing cold). Winters are generally dry. Normally, the climate in Pune is pleasant during the month of November.
- Food: You will find all kinds of food in Pune and they are extremely utterly butterly delicious too. Traditional Marathi food/thali simply rocks! Pune has all kinds of restaurants which offers both options dine & wine. Few well known ones to name are Vaishali Restaurant, (F.C. Road), Symphony Hotel @Range hills Road, Green Olives (Aundh), Hoppipola (Aundh - Most happening place for youngsters), Polka Dots (Aundh), Parihar Sweets, Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale well know for Bakarwadi ( Branches - Aundh, Deccan Road and in other areas), Burger King (Well known for the best economical burgers in whole india at a price rate of just 40-80 INR/- for a extra large king sized burgers). It's located just next to ABC Farms Koregaon park, Whatta A Sandwich (Magarpatta), Season & Amanora Mall, Inorbit Mall, etc.
- Living Cost: Few more things to take into consideration such as Pune is quite expensive city if you are relocating from small cities it can turn out to be a nightmare for you while searching homes on rent. The best way to do is sit back and relax, Explore the internet for housing sites such as housing.com, grabhouse, 99acres, quickr, olx, internal company portals and try to get a worthy deal avoiding brokerage charges unless you're lucky enough (Which is a rare case hunting for a flat in pune). A 2 BHK unfurnished empty box flat will approx. cost you between 21-25k in Magarpatta City, 35-50k for a 2-3 BHK fully furnished flat with A-Z amenities in areas of Koregaon Park, Aundh, Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar & elsewhere whereas in outskirts there are areas which might cost you slightly lesser bucks depending what kind of flat choices are you looking for
- If you stay in Pune city(around Koregaon Park, Boat Club Road,Magarpatta, SB Road, Model colony, Aundh, Baner, Senapati Bapat Road, Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar), then the cost of living would be high as these are the well know posh areas of Pune. The rent at these places are quite exorbitant. The outskirts-Wakad, Baner, Hinjewadi or newly developed areas (Vishrantwadi - Mountain view) are affordable and good places to live. The area around Pimpri and Chinchwad, Pimple Saudagar, Vishal Nagar, Balewadi is also quite budget-friendly and is surrounded by tons of IT, Manufacturing companies
- It will take initially lot of hardship, Time to understand things around you as it requires serious dedication while exploring the city during daily travel commute, Understanding its diversified culture which in turn enhances your knowledge about Pune lifestyle, Culture, People, professionalism & much more which Pune City has to offer you on a daily basis making your dreams come true
Lastly do make sure you are respecting people, nature, everyone. Would be great if you can plant a tree in order to save the planet helping in growing pune which has been known for its beautiful weather, serene peace & divine nature, Traditional culture & much more
Thanks! Hope you like my article as much as I did while writing
I'll keep updating regularly the list of companies (Area wise), Restaurants & lot of other things in order to help the needy :)
