BEAUTIFUL DISTRACTIONS

The crispy crunch of the dry leaves under his feet as he raced through the delicious smells of his local wood alone as he pretended to be a soldier. Knowing his enemy was closing in on his position. His heart racing as the destiny of his day was upon him. A few thoughts crept in, a doubt, a concern. Was his position deep enough into the dirt to conceal his location? Was he easily found? what escape routes was best for his retreat if he needed to fall back and prepare for the second attack? So much to think about. Now most 9 year old kids are not thinking about what the enemy is doing or what his bunker base is like, but for me. Well i was always dreaming of being a soldier and back in the days of 1989 when i was playing commando or snipers i can tell you it was one of the most beautiful ways to spend my day. Building hutties and making base. Rope bridges between trees 20ft up, high enough to scare the shit out of my mum and make my friends wish for their feet on the earth. Booby traps to stop my mates (enemy) and so much more. Days and weekends lost to nothing but pure fun and focused creative expression of being a kid. No internet, no computers, the only information super highway we had access to was our "Imagination.

Imagination is free. That's why so little of us use it today. We have forgotten the depth of value and the potential of what's available if we stop and think for a second. A moment, a day even to use our minds to access previously un-thought thoughts. Unused dreams or even better and my own personal favourite. "Beautiful Distractions"

The world is filled up and continues to grow with splendour and yummy enjoyable smells for your nose to steal from the wind that has the capacity to whisk you away to some distant memory you'd forgotten you owned. There are sights with the power to pull you back to a time long lost to the sands of some egg timer that only needs flipped over to access and have a minute to enjoy as each golden grain falls upon your present focus giving you back some once lost laugh with an old friend. Maybe it was the time you got lost and was late getting home and your father shouted at you, scary at the time but funny right now. Maybe it's the taste of some room as you walk in and the flavours of the atmosphere shunt you back to some old living room that reminds you of why you are in the career you are in. A memory you forgot you had. A reason to reflect and remember. why you are doing what you are doing.

There are so many beautiful distractions available to you and you don't need to wait for the few and far between moments that happen by chance to bring you back to the perspective you need, you can access this feeling, this emotion, whenever you please.

Go for a walk, enjoy the sunrise, take in the smells, enrich your eyeballs with the colours of the afternoon and let the wind soak up your stress. It's all there for the taking. No downloads needed, no pincode required, no email access. Free, wonderful simple.

A world of beautiful distractions.
