Beating the Heat
As the summer sun blazes over Prince William County,?our employees?continue to provide our customers with reliable service even in the midst one of the most intense heat waves in recent memory. This challenge highlights the importance of effective heat management strategies to ensure that our employees stay safe while providing an essential service.

Rob Peak, Electrical & Mechanical Supervisor, emphasizes the importance of awareness in such conditions. "It's crucial to recognize the limits of your body and the signs of heat stress,"?he?said,?Operational safety is paramount, and Douglas Shoop, P.E., CCM, ENV SP, M.ASCE , Director of Operations and Maintenance, monitors weather advisories closely to make timely decisions about field operations. He also sends email alerts about heat advisories to the entire workforce.

Our Supply and Logistics team supports these heat management efforts. Alton Clowers , Supply Chain and Logistics Manager, said his team ensures that essential cooling supplies are readily available when needed. "Both our Mooney and Spittle warehouses are stocked with Gatorade, cooling bands and sunscreen, ready for any department," Clowers noted, highlighting the organization's commitment to keeping staff cool and safe.

Field Services Assistant Supervisor Brandon Holt and Collections and Distribution Supervisor CJ?Huppmann?have adjusted their teams’ schedules to start work earlier in the day, avoiding the peak heat of the afternoon. "Access to water, ice and Gatorade packs from the Warehouse is essential for keeping the team going," noted Holt, underscoring the importance of hydration and regular breaks.
