Beast of the Week is.... THEM!
Pearly Gate's Beast of the week is.... THEM! (film, circa 1954) if you like old films? Ants if you're not that old! like me!
In the world of electric gates we come across lots of different problems!
What is by far the most interesting is the wildlife, and how it finds a home in your gate.
The above picture is of an Ants nest under a base plate of a gate. Unfortunately, gates are affected by all types of infestation, so we see this a lot!
We think they are Common Ants?
Disclaimer: I must point out at this juncture, we are not Ant experts, we are Gate experts! However, we do see our fair share of Ants, Common and those with a more refined way of communicating!
About The Common Ant's Life Cycle
- The Queen winter in the ground.
- Eggs are laid in late spring.
- Larvae hatch after 3-4 weeks.
- Larvae feed on secretions from the Queen’s salivary glands until the first worker Ants arrive.
- Worker Ants will then continue with larval care, nest building and food foraging.
- Fertile males are produced later in the season.
