Be-Generative News #5: Ideas Become Things

Be-Generative News is a weekly newsletter that explores innovative regenerative solutions, shares updates on Our Kinds' journey to end single-use coffee culture and offers actionable insights for sustainability leaders.

Our cells are constantly regenerating. They do their best work while we sleep.?

And while we sleep, we dream...?

At Our Kinds, we bring those dreams to life, regenerating the world around us.? ?

Dream?

noun?

  1. A series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep.?
  2. A cherished aspiration, ambition, or ideal.?

Ideas often spring from dreams – whether we’re sleeping, in the shower, or meditating...? ?

Idea?

noun?

  1. A thought or suggestion as to a possible course of action.?

?

“Ideas become things.” ?- this is Karen’s mantra (inspired by a gift card she once received).?

Beth adds her wisdom: “Ideas become things after testing.”?

Many people have told me they've been called dreamers – as if that's a bad thing. But the world needs dreamers. And dreamers need believers and teams to bring those dreams to life.?

This week, our team came together In. Real. Life. ? For many of us, it was the first time.?

We each presented our respective roles, showing how we're delivering on our shared and individual visions, dreams, and goals.?

We dived deep into the core pillars of our business, led by experts in each field:?

Trials and measurement Kate Stitfold , Beth Temperley and Joshua Dorst ???

Communication Anf Chans ? , Renee Cheah ???

Governance Gerard Zahra, FIPA , Sarita Johan and Joshua Dorst ??

Vision (shared and individual) Sarita Johan Joanna Lippold

Capital Raise Chris Hewson ?

Global relevance Molly Harriss Olson (an incredible guest)?

Belief Karen Monaghan ?

The bottom line is simple: together, we #BELIEVE—?

  • In our vision?

  • In our team?

  • In our movement?

  • In our success? ?

We may not be there yet, but we know we’re making these dreams come true.?

?

The OK Team at work.

Here’s what our team members shared about their experience:?

Regeneration in Sleep?

It’s not just our muscles that repair during sleep. Growth hormones are released, cells regenerate, hair grows, and kids get taller! Ever feel hungry when you’re tired? That’s because you haven’t had enough sleep to regulate your appetite properly.?

Good sleep helps to regulate appetite too .? ?

Sleep. Dream. Grow.?

That’s regeneration and inspiration working hand in hand.?

Resources?

To dream without disruption from your own mindset and the judgment of others, here are some things you could try:?

  • Insight Timer: A free app with thousands of meditations and music tailored to support you with focus, sleep, affirmations, and more. I regularly tune in for focus – especially while working in cafés. ? https://insighttimer.com/en-au ? ?

Thanks to Veronica Quinless for the recommendation.? ?

  • Transcendental Meditation: An easy daily practice that provides a clear head and an energy boost twice a day. ? Thanks to Kristi Russell at KLR Leadership for the nudge!?
  • The Wish : An incredible board game created by Louise Laffey . We were guided through by Sarita Johan . I highly recommend contacting Sarita if you're looking for the perfect way to frame your next team workshop – recognising and respecting everyone’s wishes.?

This Week at Our Kinds?

How many teams do you know that stay engaged in an all-day workshop, lead their own sessions, and come out the other side glowing, energised, and ready to celebrate??

As the sun set from Harry’s balcony in Footscray, we shared stories of our lives – stories that led us to exactly where we want to be, right now.?

A huge thank you to each and every one of you for showing up and bringing your full selves to the day.? ? ? ?

?Community Member Profile: Renee Cheah (she/they)? ?

Renee with their favourite organism - the fantastic fungi.

Renee and I go way back to 2020, when Chris Hewson recommended her as an intern for KidNest. Since then, she’s been on my radar as an emerging entrepreneurial powerhouse.? ?

In 2022, Renee helped Our Kinds leap out of the starting blocks and into cafés. We’re thrilled to have her with us now, even if it’s just a few hours a week, as she collaborates with Anf Chans ? on Our Kinds’ growth strategy.? ?

By day, Renee is the Student Coordinator Liaison at RMIT, where her magnetic personality and networking skills no doubt attract many to the institution.?
