When a baby is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the simple things like holding and cuddling isn’t always possible. Parents can be separated from their little one for periods of time, missing out on crucial bonding, and for babies the unnatural hospital environment can be stressful.

A baby’s sense of smell develops in the womb, and this is why “scent hearts” were designed. A heart is kept by both the baby and the parents, and swapped every few days to recharge those familiar smells and keep providing a sense of connection and comfort.

The NICU at the Brantford General Hospital put out the call looking for sewers who could help out by making scent hearts for newborns in their care. The Mount Pleasant Optimist Club sprung into action, and soon had a team of volunteers cutting, stitching, and assembling hundreds of packs of scent hearts for NICU patients at the the BCHS.

Thank You To Our Donors!

Lisa Ligori, Treasurer BCHS Foundation Board of Directors; Kari Wilson, Executive Director BCHS Foundation; Paris Tim Hortons store staff; Rick Bowler, Rest Acres Rd store owner; Wes Mik, Dundas St/Grand River St N stores owner

We are excited to share that the 2024 Smile Cookie Campaign at the Paris Tim Hortons restaurants (151 Dundas St E, 1084 Rest Acres Rd and 304 Grand River St N) raised an incredible $21,866!

Thank you to the Paris restaurant owners for their continued support of the BCHS Foundation and The Willett, Paris. Our sincere appreciation to the Tim Hortons teams and patrons that make this campaign so incredibly successful.

Since 2005, the Smile Cookie Campaign has generated over $203,000 in contributions to benefit patient care. Proceeds have helped purchase essential patient equipment including a portable ultrasound, slit lamp, ECG machine, vital sign monitors, and imaging equipment.

Thank you for bringing smiles to our community!

Susan (centre) and partner Deb, along with Matthew Mutamiri, Clinical Manager of Inpatient Mental Health, and staff from the Mental Health Unit at the BCHS

The BCHS Foundation is incredibly grateful to comedian, author, and professional speaker Susan Stewart for her generous $10,275 donation to mental health at the BCHS.

This past March, Susan debuted her amazing “A Bit More than a Rough Patch” comedy show as a fundraiser for the Mental Health Unit at the Brant Community Healthcare System . The show shares Susan’s personal journey about taking mental health seriously, along with a whole lot of laughs.

Thank you to Susan and her team, event sponsors, and attendees for making this event a tremendous success!

The BCHS is grateful to 庄臣 for a generous donation of $140,000 which will help to purchase new mammography technology for the SC Johnson Departments of Medical Imaging and Diagnostics.

SC Johnson’s transformative giving allowed the BCHS to bring the first Digital Mammography units to our hospital in 2012. As these units approach end of life and replacement parts become scarce, BCHS has identified the need to replace this technology.

SC Johnson’s most recent investment in the BCHS puts their total cumulative giving to the BCHS Foundation at just over $4.8 million. This makes them one of the largest donors to the BCHS Foundation as they continue to ensure that our community has a strong local healthcare system.

The BCHS Foundation is excited to share that the Brantford General Hospital Tim Hortons locations raised $4,095.66 during the 2024 Smile Cookie Campaign!

Our sincere gratitude to Tim Hortons team members for their hard work and to patrons for their support of this incredible campaign. Proceeds from this year’s Smile Cookie sales will benefit the BCHS Foundation.
