BCC PLANNING COMMITTEE SMITHFIELD 13.06.2024
Simon Delahunty-Forrest
Assistant Director Development Planning & Development Birmingham City Council
Planning Committee approved another significant scheme for the City, Smithfield.
The 17ha site incorporates the former Birmingham Wholesale Markets and sits adjacent to the recently approved Warner Fields Development.
Smithfield has an estimated £3.5 billion total development value, delivering iconic new markets, offices, ?leisure and culture spaces including ‘Manor Square’ and ‘Smithfield Park’ along with c.4000 new homes (including affordable homes) together with community facilities.
This scheme will result in transformative regeneration to this area of the City Centre, bringing significant public benefits.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank both my officers Rhiannon Hill (Principal Planning Officer) and Nick Jackson (Area Planning Manager) for their hard work, dedication and professionalism in making this possible.
I would also like to thank the Lendlease team for their continuing commitment to our great city.
