BC Societies, the clock is ticking; only six months left to Transition

British Columbia Societies should be reminded that they need to transition pursuant to the new Societies Act before November 28th, 2018.
The new Act came into force on November 28th, 2016 and pre-existing Societies were given a two-year window in which to transition or risk being involuntarily dissolved by the Corporate Registry. With only six months left in this window many have yet to transition.
As I’ve written previously, for most Societies the transitioning process can be a fairly straight forward administrative process (we have fixed fee packages to assist for as little as a few hundred dollars). However, there are a couple critical items that need to be considered before a Society completes the transition. Timing is also important because in certain instances an annual general meeting of members may be required.
If you are on the Board of a Society that has yet to complete the transition process, it is time to address the matter.
