The BBQ Technique for Connecting
Kevin Whelan
I help you create multiple streams of recurring income to build lasting wealth by taking small actionable steps every month
With Britain enjoying a heatwave, two thoughts come to mind about the Summer. Firstly, that networking meetings generally take a break, and, secondly, how it’s time to drag out the BBQ from storage.
Seeing the BBQ reminds me of how I recommend people approach networking – who knows what opportunities will arise over the holiday period? If you really want to be a brilliant networker and really love it - try the BBQ Technique when you go to your next event.
B – Book. Carry an interesting book and you will instantly attract eyes to you and they won't be able to resist asking you what you are reading. A great ice-breaker, especially for those who are not a natural at approaching others.
B - Badge. Those who know me will notice that I always wear a badge which represents the 7 ways to build wealth. This is always a conversation starter wherever I am and, of course, I have my 30 second Elevator Pitch sorted. Have you? What’s your answer to "what do you do?" Any really distinguishing badge, brooch or item can work. One of my clients wears a kilt!
Q- Question. This is really the key to effective networking. Ask, "Who is the ideal person you are looking to connect with?" Notice the focus is on them and not you. Gather your connections you make and, in the time before you attend your next event, thank them and try your best to suggest someone that will help them. Try this and see how you feel as the ‘thank you’ comments flood in on Facebook and LinkedIn.

In a future post I will talk about how to use these key principles of connecting for maximum results. By the way, if you want to know more about a really simple but effective system that will capture the cards you collect and automatically save and email your contacts and send them a message in hours, just get in touch.
Have a great BBQ and enjoy connecting.
