What’s Been Happening at Bigger Brighter Bolder?
July is a great time to take some time to reset for the rest of the year.?
Down time is so important, but often hard to get as a small business owner. What we often need to remember is that?building a successful business is a long game and unless you pace yourself, you won’t go the distance
George and I did just that. We had a three week holiday.?
I’ve come back and my head is clearer, I feel calmer and I’m ready to go again.?
And the business while I was away...??
No beats were skipped.
Bookings were taken, members were looked after and loved, the team managed everything beautifully.?
We had a team meeting to plan and strategise for the rest of the year, and now we’re good to go.?
July Highlights Snippets Video?
?Here are some snippets we’ve taken from our July Board Meetings.
BBB members used this time to reflect on their quarter’s achievements and focus themselves for the rest of the year.
?I’m so proud of all of them, and I cannot wait to see what they achieve in the next quarter.
Networking Tips & Events:?
For many business owners, networking can be seen as a ‘dark art’.??Something that you’re either born with as an ability or not.??But really, it’s a science.??A process.??There are things you can learn to make it more fun and way more effective.??It helps to have a bit of charisma, but honestly, following a well thought out process can reap huge rewards.????
So here are my 8 top tips for networking: Click on the image for a PDF copy.
1.?????Get there early, or at least on time -??First impressions are important and if you slide in sideways you don’t look organised or in control of your time.?
2.?????Listen and ask questions first -?It’s important to be interested in the people you’re networking with.?This will help you tailor what you talk about based on their interests rather than spewing out your standard spiel.???
3.?????Leave your sales pitch at home -?Making selling your first goal?is the primary mistake most people make.?Networking isn’t a quick hit.?It’s about building relationships and building trust.?If you’re smart with your questions and listening, you’ll spot opportunities to progress the conversation.???
4.?????Share the passion -?The people I remember at a networking event are the ones who are really passionate about what they do and how it’s helped people.
?5.?????Give value first -?As you’re talking to people, think about what you can do for them, for free.??
?6.?????Be memorable -?Doing something of value for someone will definitely help you to be more memorable but the key thing to note here is that people will remember how you made them feel, not what you said.?
?7.?????Follow up -?It never ceases to amaze me how many people I meet at networking events don’t follow up with me.??A quick email to say thanks for your time or lovely to meet you can go a long way.??Make it short, sweet and person8.?????Showing up -?The more you attend and practise your networking the better you become.??I believe it’s still the best way to build your reputation and your client base and it’s reaped huge benefits for me.
On Thursday 29 September from 10am-12pm I will be holding a fluid and fun networking event.?
We will be providing tea, coffee and pastries for you.
This is open networking so feel free to bring a friend, a prospective client, a contact, and leverage the opportunity to connect. It was a huge success when we ran it back in May!
No need to book, just pop it into your diary and we’ll see you at Chequers Hotel in Newbury.
We look forward to seeing you there!
The Antidote to Fear is NOT Control!??
When faced with a fearful situation, most people desperately turn to control.??
The challenge is that not everything can be controlled.??
The antidote to fear is TRUST.??
Fundamentally, there are three things you need to trust in.??
Look for evidence.??
Look to your past for evidence that you can trust yourself - what you've got through and overcome.??
Look for evidence that you can trust humanity - those moments where things have been returned, or people have shown kindness.??
And we need to trust in something greater than us. I promise you; the evidence is there.?
How Important is Community to you Growing a Successful Business?
You can argue that I'm biased because I run communities. However, there's a reason I run communities…??
As human beings, we are not meant to be alone. We’re meant to be in tribes. We’re meant to be in families. We’re meant to be in communities.??
Business owners are human beings. So it's important that we satisfy that need to be in a community.??
What's important when you’re looking for a community to belong to is shared values and like-minded people. Is this a space that is designed to help you achieve what it is that you want to fundamentally achieve??
So yes, I have an awesome community. However, there are lots of awesome communities out there.??
I urge you to check them out, do your due diligence and make sure you find a community that's right for you.??
When you find the right community, not only does it give you a much clearer and stronger sense of self, but it also meets that deep desire for belonging and allows us to feel the strength that being part of a collective brings.??
The right community will massively strengthen your self-esteem, and as we all know, success in your business starts with self-esteem.??

Mental Health
I want to talk about mental health. It’s a hot topic.??
As someone who supports ambitious business owners, I frequently see mental health issues rise to the surface.??
We have a culture in the UK of stiff upper lip - putting our best foot forward and pretending everything is always good.??
Add in social media hype and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re the only one dealing with a mental health issue right now.??
But you could not be more wrong. And it's important you understand that you’re not alone.??
I have general anxiety disorder. And I've recently found out I have ADHD, which I've been in denial about. But it makes a lot of sense. I've also had my fair share of depression over the years.??
Some of the best people I know have had serious mental health issues. Our ability to really touch the depths of our soul in that way creates a situation where we can much more easily connect with other people. And so some of the best coaches and mentors that I've met have had serious mental health issues along the way.??
The important thing is to please know that it's okay.??
You’re okay.??
It's a sad truth that mental health issues are normal right now.
Which means you’re normal. Sad, but true.??
The second thing for me is you MUST reach out. I cannot tell you how important this is.??
I've helped many business owners navigate their mental health issues. One key thing that’s the difference between being able or not being able to navigate is really understanding what’s going on. Reaching out and finding someone to help you is absolutely worth its weight in gold. (If you’re looking for recommendations, please private message me and I will recommend some people that you can speak to.)?
The third thing for me is to be kind to yourself. When people are in this place, they start berating themselves. They're beating themselves up for not being better or having their shit together, and trust me, it doesn't help. It's the worst thing you can do.??
Be really kind to yourself, take time, be gentle and help yourself to navigate this.??
Understand you are not alone. It is so important that you know that.??

Team Tips From Emma Budgen - Sales and Business Development
Behaviour Breeds Behaviour.
?I was first taught this lesson very early on in my career.??I don’t think I FULLY understood its meaning – or indeed its impact, but it’s such powerful advice I pass this on, whenever the situation calls for it!
My experience, running my first Hotel – front desk brigade – it was brought to my attention that when I was in a bad mood, everyone else around me dropped into a bad mood and it made for an utterly crappy shift. When I was in a fun and happy mood, everyone wanted to work my shift as they knew they were in for a perfectly professional riot!
I was told that my behaviour bred other people’s behaviour.
?Most of us are generally able to keep our emotions in check. We may even be conscious of how our emotions might appear to our team, our family and our friends.
What we are not always aware of is how our moods and actions can affect and influence those around us, both positively and negatively, and then pass on to the people?they?are around, and so on.?
?We are human and it’s a huge part of our communication arsenal to display our emotions and act upon them according to events that happen around us.??
As a business owner, as a member of a team and simply being a human, how you project yourself to anyone else that encounters you is incredibly powerful.
You lead by example and so my Top Tip is to always take a moment to be conscious of how YOUR example looks from their perspective and how that will affect and influence them.
It can change EVERYTHING!

2 年Hi Tracey. Long time no chat, brilliant post / article. Glad you're keeping well and buzzing. I liked the networking tips a lot, some of the tips are kind of obvious but it is so easy to let them slip in the heat of the moment, especially if it's an exciting one. Thanks for the reminder regarding the 29th networking event in Newbury, I will definitely not overlook registering my car details at reception. Sincerely looking forward to meeting you and your team again. Regards. PS, just registered for the webinar, thanks for that. Mike
