Our top tips on prioritising yourself in business??

Many small business-owners will put themselves and their needs last. Last behind their clients’ needs, their family’s needs and their business needs. But you can’t build the business you want if you’re not healthy enough to do it in the first place.??

This month, our members shared some tips on ways service-based business owners can make time each day to prioritise themselves:??

  • “Breathe. We can often forget to focus on our breathing. A small breathing exercise throughout the day will bring the stress levels down.”??
  • “Take a small break between each task. This will help stop the feelings of overwhelm.”??
  • “Build in a rest time during the day. If you’re exhausted by 5pm and have a family needing you, then a short 20-minute rest in the day – even a nap – will give you that early-morning feeling when your energy is low”.??
  • “Light the candles, burn the incense. Whatever scent keeps you feeling calm, have that nearby.”??
  • “Noise cancelling headphones can help when you’re feeling overwhelmed and need to juggle many tasks. These also help when you have small children”.??
  • “Morning yoga and meditation. Doing this will start your day well. Also use meditation throughout the day.”??

  • “Block the time out in your calendar so you prioritise yourself.”??

These are a few of the great tips our members. Give them a try and let me know how you get on.??

Why you need to truly believe in your WHY?

Maintaining motivation in business can be hard when you’re a small team. It’s harder when you don’t have anyone to lean on to see you through the tough times. This is why it’s so important to protect our motivation from negative thinking.??

It’s a question that comes up often with our members: how can I keep going???

We’ve been teaching them the skills they need to protect their motivation so even when the challenges appear insurmountable, they have the tools to look at what matters and take that next step.??

It all comes down to the WHY.??

Why are you building this business in the first place???

If you have a mortgage to pay and kids to feed, you can guarantee you’ll find a way to do that rather than see your kids starve and your family homeless. You have motivation.??

What can happen is we lose sight of our motivation or we simply don’t believe in it enough.??

Your WHY needs to be strong enough and you need to believe in it enough to make it happen.??

It’s not enough to say “I want to earn £100k”. Why do you want to do that? Is it for a better life for your family? To build a legacy? Or another reason that keeps you getting out of bed each morning???

Whatever it is, keep coming back to it so that next time you feel like taking the easy route (and here’s a tip: there is no easy route), you come back to the reason you’re doing it in the first place.??

Not got a strong enough WHY? Then work on that this month.?

The importance of happiness?

We value happiness highly in BBB.?

?? We care that our members are happy.?

?? We care that the business owners we help are happy in what they do.?

?? We especially care that our team is happy.?

So much so that we benchmark the happiness of our members and team in our reporting. This is one of the true markers of success in our world.?

And I’m immensely proud that my team has a consistent 90-100% happiness score.?

The joy they take in their work shines through at every level of the business.?

Do you measure happiness in your business, and especially with your clients? If not, it might be time to start. The results may surprise you.??

Asking for help – the hardest thing to do in business??

A successful business is never built alone.??

Despite what some people online may have you believe, there isn’t a single business out there that hasn’t needed a support network to help them grow.??

It might be help in the form of well-connected friends and family, or a financial investment, or access to more experienced business owners, but no one “goes it alone”.?

Being vulnerable and asking for help is essential if you want to be a successful business owner. I’ve seen hundreds of small businesses grow over the years. Some are better at asking for help than others, but the ones who do generally get there faster.??

The key is to ask for the right help.??

That means understanding what you want to achieve, what’s standing in the way of achieving it, and what your weak points are.??

Then you can ask the right person for help (please be discerning) and get the best plan in place.??

If it’s been a while since you’ve asked for help in your business, it might be time to take a look at what you need help with.??
