Q1. At what point in your career did you decide to focus on tax and constitutional litigation and why?

Fiscal and constitutional matters interested me from the time I worked in the Supreme Court, where I had a first approach to these matters.

Q2. You have vast experience working in high-profile positions within government agencies, how have these insights helped in your approach to the way you practice law in your area of expertise?

The experience I obtained in the government has been very important in my career development. I am able to anticipate the potential arguments that the authorities defend and the justification for them.

Q3. What has been the most challenging legal case you've worked on and why?

I have participated in several very interesting trials, but the defense of the previous administration's tax reform represented great challenges and a steep learning curve.

Q4. How do you see tax and constitutional law changing in Mexico to benefit cross-border transactions?

In particular, tax law has evolved significantly to recognize and as a result tax many cross-border transactions. However, the great challenge lies in maintaining a healthy balance between tax collection and economic development.

Q5. You have specialized in this sector for over 20 years now, can you tell me a highlight of your career?

Most of my career was spent in litigation areas at the Mexican Ministry of Finance, although in the end, I had the opportunity to direct the legal area of the largest public health institution in the country. This was an incredible experience.

Q6. What would be your career advice to young lawyers who want to specialize in this area of law?

They have to specialize, study hard, but above all, find a balance between work and personal development.

I received the invitation to join BBA, which I am very grateful for, as it is a great opportunity for legal professionals to share experiences to grow together.
